In January 2000, Fink Engineering signed the contract to provide a Triple Lock Facility for the new Townsville Hospital Redevelopment.
Measuring, 3.6 m wide x 2.8 m high x 13 m long and weighing in at 50 tonnes, this was the largest Hyperbaric Facility in the Southern Hemisphere. The new rectangular triple lock chamber was fitted with life support computerised controls, ECS, communications, entertainment, fire deluge, gas analysis, FE’s standard square medical lock and a complete compressed air and gas supply system. The Chamber’s Main lock is identical in size to the Alfred’s hyperbaric chamber (5.7m L x 3.13m W x 2.3m H) however, the Inner and Entrance locks are wider (2400 mm) to accommodate three 1000 mm wide doorways with five sliding doors.
The chamber was delivered to site in September while the hospital was still under construction and installation of the life support systems was finalised on site.
